This pattern is mostly paperless. As a low waste design, based off the industry standard, a template is provided and intended to be drawn directly onto the fabric. No paper pattern is provided with exception to the neck opening. If you are new to zero and waste sewing, this will be different than a typical paper sewing pattern. Instructions are provided and walk you through this process. Items you’ll need include a yard stick and fabric or chalk marker to transcribe the pattern onto the fabric.
The modern BOG Jacket sewing pattern is inspired by the historical bronze age Bog Coat dating back 2000 years. Historically, the Bog Coat is constructed from a single piece of fabric and sewn together in a series of folds. This pattern is not meant to re-invent the Bog Coat, but to celebrate its simplicity of construction and provide modern garments based on the historical concept.
The jacket is both minimal in look and construction. The fit is oversized and boxy. Design features include a lined bomber jacket with a collar or hood option.
While the construction is simple, the Bog concept differs from traditional sewing standards and process and requires critical thinking. Techniques includes installing a zip closure, welt pockets, attaching a liner and other finishing techniques. This pattern is intended for intermediate to advanced makers.
If you are not familiar with the following techniques, it’s recommend to research the following:
Welt Pocket Installation
Bagged Lining
Separating Zipper Installation
Experience with knits and woven fabrics
This pattern comes with templates and instructions on how to make this jacket.
